The new head of one of Birmingham’s top five property consultancies is relishing the challenge of taking forward the business to “even greater heights.”

Ian Cornock, who will be spearheading future growth at award-winning King Sturge has joined the firm as managing partner of its West Midlands’ operation, succeeding Chris Monk, who has been regional partner-in-charge for the past twelve years.

Mr Monk, a former chairman of Birmingham Forward, the professional & financial services organisation, commented: “I am looking forward to working with, and supporting, Ian until my retirement in April, 2009.”

Mr Cornock, former head of Colliers CRE in Birmingham, said: “Last year, King Sturge achieved record levels of business both nationally and regionally and, as it heads towards completion of its first-half year results for 2007, there are encouraging signs of another all-time high.”

He added: “I believe there are immense opportunities for the commercial property sector not only in Birmingham, where £14bn of redevelopment is in the pipeline, but also in places such as Wolverhampton, Coventry, Walsall and Worcester, where regeneration projects are helping to stimulate the local economy.”

Earlier this year, King Sturge won the Investment Agency Team of the Year accolade at the inaugural Midland property awards organised by national trade magazine Property Week – the third major award to have been handed to the firm’s investment team in the last three years.

As part of King Sturge’s development team, Mr Cornock will advise private and public sector clients, like Advantage West Midlands, on issues including site acquisitions & disposals and planning matters. While at Colliers CRE, Mr Cornock specialised in office agency and development consultancy, working with high-profile clients such as Ballymore, the team behind the Snow Hill scheme in Birmingham city centre.

“Joining King Sturge at such an exciting stage of its expansion programme provides the incentive to further promote the firm as a leading multi-disciplinary business with one of the best all-round team of specialists in the Midlands,” he commented.

In addition to the appointment of Mr Cornock, King Sturge has also announced that Peter Clarke, a partner in the Birmingham office who heads the West Midlands’ valuation team, is also to take over responsibility for UK Commercial Valuation.

David Lathwood, UK regional managing partner of King Sturge, commenting on the appointments, said: “The forthcoming retirement of Chris Monk and the move by Peter Clarke to head up UK Commercial Valuations presents us with fresh opportunities. Bringing in Ian Cornock, with his undoubted skills and abilities, will enable us to take the West Midlands’ team onto the next level.”

He added: “The highly-successful 85-strong West Midlands’ operation is a major part of our UK business and we anticipate its size, turnover and profit to continue to increase significantly over the coming years.”
